If I'm going to do the Skate Across America, In 2 months, I got to do 50 mi a day. You know, 50 * 60 days, 3,000. My

a day. You know, 50 * 60 days, 3,000. My

goal is like 50. So, I'd come here and like try to see if I could do 50 miles, build my way up to that. So, now like I I have a gauge. I'm like, "Okay, I could

do 50 like fairly easily. You know, it takes me 6 hours non-stop. If I start early in the morning, I have like 10 12 hours in the day." With all the hills and like things I might run into, I

should be able to do that. I've heard

him say that that to push himself beyond the limit. At first, I wasn't too good

the limit. At first, I wasn't too good on the idea. I thought it was a little crazy. You know, he he has his own

crazy. You know, he he has his own mindset on what he wants to do, and you know, he's going to do what he wants to do.

>> Let's go.

Oh [ __ ] that was almost pretty bad right there.

[Applause] [ __ ] [Music] >> I keep hiding.

[Applause] [Music] He's willing to do massive amounts of harm to his body when it comes to skateboarding. And I've I've been

skateboarding. And I've I've been dealing with that. Yeah. But he hasn't let it hold him back. He's just kind of managed it and he's doing everything to make sure his knee doesn't blow up on

this trip basically.

>> I'm a little nervous.

>> What? You've had these stick needles in you before?

>> Just about. just about the skate really.

I just want to make sure like my legs good for that.

>> As far as the knee goes, we talked about a couple things >> like the arthritis, crerepidus, like that stuff. What about that?

that stuff. What about that?

>> That's not going away.

>> Okay. And what about playing that out over 2 months like 10 hours a day? Can

that manifest into something like could that stop me, you know, or like >> Of course it could stop you.

>> Absolutely. That's why I hope you got a good cell phone satphone because if you don't have a Do you have a satellite phone?

>> No.

>> May want to look into buying one because you're going to be in areas in the Southwest uh that and in the Midwest where you may have no cell coverage.

>> Oh, yeah. There's a stretch of like 120 miles where it's just wilderness desert.

>> And you got a chase car going with you?

>> No. Completely solo. Just me and a backpack.

>> Something seriously wrong with you.

>> This is everything I'm bringing right here. So, we got

here. So, we got charger. These are just like easy to

charger. These are just like easy to fill up while I'm skating. I think this is a first aid kit, toothbrush, deodorant. This just got

toothbrush, deodorant. This just got this stuff. This is for my nipples,

this stuff. This is for my nipples, sunscreen, poncho, plus uh in case I'm skating in the rain. Toilet paper. This

is like a backup tripod thing. Pen. This

is the lightest skate tool I've ever found. Bearings. Bearing lube.

found. Bearings. Bearing lube.

Ibuprofen. a lighter, bouncy ball, kingpin, more ibuprofen in here. It's

basically it's what you're looking at right here.

It's a sweatshirt, under arour, a t-shirt, and these pants one more time inside the bag and like two extra pairs of socks. That's it.

of socks. That's it.

That's really everything I'm bringing on the trip. And then there's like two or

the trip. And then there's like two or three gallons of water back here. I had

this big like 9.5 in board. Um I just spray painted it in. It took me like three, four, five different sets of wheels before getting to these. Getting

to these these these coast pretty well.

I'm pretty sure these are the ones that I'm going to be using. I try not to think like too much about it. Just waste

so much time and money and energy. You

know what I mean? Like I feel comfortable on this thing. So going to rock with it.

you ever went on a skateboard?

>> Uh, I've done 50 miles like a couple of times. 60 miles once or twice

times. 60 miles once or twice across the freaking country that say an alley if I want to.

>> When you push yourself to like the highest limit you can go, you just like stretch yourself out. You stretch your limits. everything else in life becomes

limits. everything else in life becomes easy. The challenge itself is just

easy. The challenge itself is just pushing my own limits and it does something. It just like draws you in to

something. It just like draws you in to a different kind of state of mind.

You're just completely focused. Just

feel purposeful and all the other [ __ ] of the day just kind of fades away.

What the heck, dude?

>> You're not even into the eight bite.

>> There's no effort.

[Applause] >> Pretty nice, though.

>> No, it's nice.

>> No wheel bite, nothing.

>> But it starts picking up immediately going that direction.

I think he sincerely enjoys it. He likes

to push himself to those limits and do things that no one would ever do. He

likes to surprise people with the extremes that he can do.

>> Like it's pretty hard to die.

>> I met Chad at like Tana Park. There's

some security there. I told him to put his helmet on.

It was such a huge thing to do. Like,

you know what I'm saying? Skate across

the country. Cuz when you really put it in perspective, it's [ __ ] crazy. I

guess it's almost like preparing like, you know, like kind of like how fighters prepare for a fight, you know? It's like

you got to like train for that [ __ ] Like he's been like, you know, I told him if it was me, man, I'd be skating from from Venice to downtown LA and I'd be like, "All right, I'm over it."

>> I like talked to my students, my first period class, and said like, "We'll try to FaceTime with him if we can in the morning and check in." And they're really excited about it. Like, they keep asking me like, "Did he leave yet? Like,

when's he going?" And it keeps like hitting me out of nowhere. Like, no, I didn't leave yet. Like, hold on. I'm not

ready yet. I think it's going to be 2 months. I mean, I wish it didn't have to

months. I mean, I wish it didn't have to be so long. It is what it is.

It's very easy to get caught up in thought, you know, got all this stuff coming at you and being out there in the moment. I don't know. Nothing feels

moment. I don't know. Nothing feels

better than that.

>> I think he's going to make it. I think

it's going to be a tough ride, though, cuz he's 35. He's got that knee injury, so he's going to be dealing with that, I think, for for like 3,000 miles.

>> Things I'm worried about or things I can't control, like if a car veers off and hits me or something like that, you know, or maybe getting attacked by a pack of coyotes, like things like that.

Everyone's a little nervous for me. They

know I'm kind of crazy, you know. Uh,

but I never really had a fear of death.

Like, I almost think it's comical. Like,

I feel like it would be funny for my friends to have the story of, oh, my friend died. here skating across

friend died. here skating across America. Got attacked by a pack of

America. Got attacked by a pack of coyotes. Like, who gets to say that? You

coyotes. Like, who gets to say that? You

know what I mean?

>> I know.

>> But it's cool.

>> Good. How are you?

>> Hey, if I were you, when I get to the east, I'd become a kickboxer cuz your legs got to be [ __ ] This is the actual GPS route. 3,27

miles, 77,000 ft elevations. Dane should

be fun.

>> Thank you.

>> I put in so much practice and work into this. It feels like just another day.

this. It feels like just another day.

Like I'm just going to start skating and do my 50 miles, get some food, and do it again.

Now continue straight on Ocean Avenue.

>> First leg of the trip is all uphill.

Woke up, legs feeling a little bit jello.

Today's going to be a fun one. Got one

of the biggest hills of the entire trip to make it up. So, we got hit with a sandstorm. 25 mph winds right in my

sandstorm. 25 mph winds right in my face. There's cars that are having

face. There's cars that are having trouble getting up this.

[Music] This camel back only holds 3 L of water out here. That's not lasting very long.

out here. That's not lasting very long.

These guys circling me.

[Music] This called rice shoe tree. Basically

the only place where they shade.

Come on, man.

[Music] Do you happen to have any water I can buy over here? Thank you so much.

[Applause] I just noticed as I was sitting here, it looks like my back wheels have like craters.

Incredible sunset right now.

>> It is day number seven. I am a tenth of the way across the country.

>> What was that?

No, >> I'm actually skateboarding across America.

>> Thank you for the offer.

It's not easy just to take up take off.

>> Oh, no. It's a lot harder than people might think.

>> A lot of folks don't realize that.

>> Yeah.

>> You know, every time I got up and left, I didn't have no wallet, didn't have no money, nothing but myself. I just took off, man.

>> Yeah. I needed that this morning.

>> Oh, yeah.

This could be the worst ground skating on being hydrated.

Next stop, 5200 ft elevation. Getting

harder to breathe now up these hills, these bushes. The next part is the

these bushes. The next part is the steepest part of the hill. There's no

shoulder and cars are flying both ways.

Amazing.

Definitely worth the climb. There is a part of that where I was just I was I can't even explain it. I just

felt like I was exactly where I was meant to be.

Got to love it.

[Music] How's it going?

You guys need to inspect my board or next.

[Music] >> Yo, >> what up?

>> What's good?

>> What up?

>> Where are you right now?

>> I'm um I'm at just picking up my supplies for the day. About to hit the road.

>> I'm on route 9. I'm going to be on that the whole entire day.

>> Route 9.

>> Yeah. Um I'm in a town called Hashida and I'm heading to Columbus. So I'll

send you my live tracking location once I start my route. Skip I lose service, you can't find me, like just drive on 9 and you'll see a skateboarder.

>> Just cruise down Route 9 till we see Chad. All right.

Chad. All right.

Heat. Heat.

[Music] Heat. Heat.

Heat. Heat.

[Applause] [Music] [Applause]

[Music] Oh my god. Well, it's so good to see

you. So good to see humans.

you. So good to see humans.

That is the wrap for today. I'm feeling

shot.

Holy [ __ ] dude.

[Music] The lights working in dark.

No detergent is going old fashioned.

Riding the I watch my headphones.

And someone's using a dryer, so that's good.

Oh my god.

I think that's a great You almost have to like kind of dislike yourself at some level to be a skateboarder to want inflict harm on yourself. I've done so many things and

yourself. I've done so many things and experienced so many things that I'm constantly bored. Like nothing excites

constantly bored. Like nothing excites me. I can see through everything. and

me. I can see through everything. and

how things are going to play out.

>> So, I need something exciting or interesting or like a physical challenge like skating across America >> is like one of the only things that can excite me. I I found skateboarding when

excite me. I I found skateboarding when I was a kid and that like lit up my world, the excitement and everything, you know? And then when I got hurt, it

you know? And then when I got hurt, it was easier to just drink and talk about skateboarding, hang out with skaters, and then like I kind of get that high of like maybe drinking and driving or

partying, making people laugh, like doing crazy [ __ ] you know? Like I just loved like having this like [ __ ] up basically. It's like almost like an

basically. It's like almost like an addiction in itself. Um, and I would get the Dwee and I'd laugh it off and I think it was funny that I'd laugh it off and be like, "Yeah, this doesn't bother

me. This doesn't fase me." People

me. This doesn't fase me." People

looking at me like, "Oh my god."

>> It's like, "Yeah, whatever. It's just a Dwee. Who cares? I'll just keep

Dwee. Who cares? I'll just keep drinking." Didn't bother me. You don't

drinking." Didn't bother me. You don't

get the Dwee and then just quit that day, >> right?

>> You get it. And then you go even [ __ ] deeper. When you're in one of those

deeper. When you're in one of those holes, it's the whole thing is just your mindset and how you view the world. So

if you have this view of the world like nothing matters, why do anything? Like

who gives a [ __ ] If you have like all these underlying internal beliefs, that's going to manifest in the world. I

needed something that was more exciting than drinking.

There's not many things more exciting than drinking, especially the way I used to do it. And so like that's where it needs to change. You have to figure out

a meaning. What would you do in life if

a meaning. What would you do in life if you could pick anything you want?

>> I'd like to make it through the whole way.

I've skated on like worse shoes, you know what I mean? So, I'm pretty used to it. And these heels got some some time

it. And these heels got some some time left in them before we get into nothing to the gas station. Got to get like supplies for

station. Got to get like supplies for the whole day.

a walk in every place.

>> This is where all the weight comes from, man.

It's like every day you weigh out how much like how much water can I survive with and how much do I back to hurt, you know?

Oh yeah.

It dry out so fast out here.

3 liters like on a normal day. Like it's

plenty. But this will last like a quarter, half the day or something. So

hopefully I run into someone out there.

[Music] All right. So this road isn't gravel,

All right. So this road isn't gravel, but it's pretty close. It's walking a front line.

[Music] shoes starting to peel through the bottom a little bit.

We are at a 12% grade right now. At

least we got a little bit of shade. This

is the highest elevation of the trip.

5700 ft.

My eyes have been kind of burnt out a little bit. So, as I'm saying that, I'm

little bit. So, as I'm saying that, I'm like, "All right, I got to put on my glasses." Reach in my pocket.

glasses." Reach in my pocket.

>> I'm skateboarding across America. Yeah.

Wide open.

Got some new shades.

Who would have thought by the end of the day today?

Solid day. Did 61 miles. If we're not there, we're very close to the halfway point.

>> You guys are lucky you joined in at the downhill.

>> Nice to meet you. Thank you guys. Thank

you guys so much.

>> Wow, that's incredible. All right, this is day number 28. 1 month, 4 weeks, man.

These wheels, I can't believe they're still like That doesn't even make sense how they're still together.

[Music] >> I started in California.

>> You started in California right here.

>> Venice Beach. It's been 29 days.

>> What the [ __ ] >> Something I noticed today, man. It was

pretty hilly like up and down the whole day and I was just crushing those hills.

Like it was no problem. My legs have been so conditioned from like this whole trip. It makes sense, right? Cuz I'm out

trip. It makes sense, right? Cuz I'm out here. But it just shocks me like how I

here. But it just shocks me like how I was in the beginning. I had to like get off my board and stand there like take a second and now I'm just like nonstop up every hill like the whole day. I'm not

even tired.

>> You were on the bridge with a skateboard. Yeah, I'm uh skateboarding

skateboard. Yeah, I'm uh skateboarding across America.

>> How's it going?

>> Show me some identification, sir.

Because you got a backpack and you're dressed in black and you're suspicious.

You mind if I look through your bag?

Okay.

>> And if not, then I'll just cuff you up, take your bag with you.

>> Really?

>> Yep. You check out. Cool. All right.

I switched the wheels to the front. Now

I just keep getting uh flat spot like hitting rocks and stuff like that.

>> Yeah. Check it out. Spin it.

>> The vortex, brother.

>> Tornado time. Oh, you lost half your water though.

>> Yeah, it's in my sock, though. So still

got it out. Yeah. I My original thought was if the back wheel gives out, it'll like just skid on the ground and I'll be fine.

>> Yeah.

>> If I'm bombing a hill and this gives out, I might flip on the front.

>> Yes.

>> But I think they'll make it though.

>> Do they feel cracky or no? Do they feel like weak or what? Like what's up with them?

>> Try it out, bro.

>> These >> Well, there's a little piece that's a little floppy, but >> these are going to fall apart. No,

>> I also grabbed these for you.

>> What?

>> You just throw it on.

>> That's perfect.

>> That probably feel really good for the last 15 days.

>> Thank you.

>> Yeah.

>> Yeah. No, that's not from all of us.

>> I did it better.

>> Does that feel any better?

I think I think in theory it's better, but I don't know.

>> I think I'm just so used to it like it feels like home when it's digging into my shoulders. Yeah. Yeah.

my shoulders. Yeah. Yeah.

>> There's no way it doesn't feel better.

>> Yo, that is so much better than I remember.

>> Yeah, it's like padded.

>> Yeah. It's just It feels a little bulky, too, though. No,

too, though. No, >> you just loosen the strap a little bit.

>> No, I mean like Oh, no. That's chill.

Fair.

>> I like I mean >> I feel like that'd be better than the [ __ ] piercing skin. But if you don't want them, it's fine.

>> A regular backpack here. Turn around.

But he's got drawstring bag straps. Like

what the [ __ ] is that?

>> It started off flat.

>> Dude, that heavy hurts. I know that hurts.

>> Here, do it.

>> Bro, that's heavy as hell, dude.

permanent brooding.

>> He prefers that, >> dude. The tan line is legendary.

>> dude. The tan line is legendary.

>> That's pretty heavy, though. It's like

what, 10 lbs?

>> So, not.

>> All right.

>> All right. Later.

[Music] It's kind of interesting just like seeing so many cars every day and like

each person how they react to me tells me about their life. Like if you can't handle like a little thing in your way, like a little difference in your trip and you like flip out, honk the horn,

like that's a reflection of your life and how you treat stuff. You know, when you get into cities, people tend to be more angry just cuz they're trying to get somewhere faster and, you know,

everyone's honking already. Um, but then again out here like I don't know, they're not used to it also, right?

>> So you see someone in the middle of the road skateboarding like what are you doing? And then I can't let every single

doing? And then I can't let every single person's reaction behind how I live my life, how I feel, flip them off. You

know what I mean? Like so it's a good lesson in just kind of people will behave the way they will and just do your own thing.

It's kind of all about speed. You're

driving. You're not feeling all these little moments or the people on the side of the road. And you know, like there's moments inside that in the car you're

just zipping by. Yeah.

[Music] Some truck was like not paying attention at all, maybe texting or reaching for something and they just veered onto the shoulder and I looked up and they were like right in front of me and jerk the

wheel.

Take a selfie.

You guys want to grab yourself real quick?

>> You're about to head that way. You're

about to have a mountain.

>> Yeah, there.

>> But there's a lot of good people in this area here.

>> Yeah, >> it really is. Just be safe. There's

crazies, too, along the way.

>> I'm not crazy as him.

>> Yeah, I'm sorry. I'm wondering.

>> I'm just talking about as far as your drug hands.

>> Yeah.

>> Oh, yeah. Yeah.

>> Just be safe.

>> They might look at you and think of the homeless man. Try to rob them.

homeless man. Try to rob them.

>> I wouldn't try to rob. You know what I'm saying? Thinking you're really homeless.

saying? Thinking you're really homeless.

>> That'd be bad.

>> Well, congratulations on I hope you make it, which I know you're going to got this far. You're going to make it. Heat.

this far. You're going to make it. Heat.

Heat.

[Music]

[Applause]

Oh yeah, it's starting to come down.

I have this guy here.

>> I think I simultaneously feel like I'm in a farm place and I'm at home. I just

feel like I'm exactly where I should be.

I feel comfortable.

Sleep like a baby. Just like it feels like, you know, I don't know. Like I

don't I never have like a complaint about the hotel or like where I'm staying. It's just

staying. It's just feels right. I guess I don't really have

feels right. I guess I don't really have that much of an attachment to life. Like

I've just contemplated death for like a long time my whole life and I never like ran from that and I'm just comfortable with like my time here and that could end at any moment. It's like the more

you face the truth the less pain you'll have and that is the truth. Like life is fleeting. Everything in life is bleeding

fleeting. Everything in life is bleeding and the more permanent you want everything to be, the more pain you're going to be in. So the more you can like let go and understand things are coming

and going at their own pace and be in less pain.

It's fun, right?

I mean, doesn't get better than this.

[Music] Heat. Heat.

Heat. Heat.

[Music] All right, we've lost our shoulder.

Nothing like a steep hill for breakfast to get the blood flowing.

That's kind of hysterical. GPS is

telling me to go straight right now.

[Music] I was just thinking, it's kind of crazy.

Before the trip started, there were just so many things I was worried about or I'd hear from other people, you know, like snakes, spiders, I don't know, just

people messing with me. Like, there were just so many things. And basically, I ran into none of them, you know? Like,

for the most part, nothing has happened the whole trip. which has been pretty smooth. It's just me skating on the

smooth. It's just me skating on the road. You know,

road. You know, this is crazy. Right now, a bug while I was skating flew into my ear and it's like deep in there and I can't get it

out.

I can like hear it.

Couldn't stay there all day. Still

alive. I tried shaking it like holding my nose, blowing as hard as I could.

Tried that for like five minutes. Um,

moving my ear around just so I can't get it out.

>> There you go.

>> Thank you. Right off the ice.

>> Perfect. Yeah.

>> Wow, man. I'm glad you I'm glad you're doing this, man. You made it good this far, man. It scares the hell out of me.

far, man. It scares the hell out of me.

>> So, I just had a um a bug fly in my ear and it's still stuck in there.

>> I might have to go to urgent care and get it out. Like, I don't know what to do. I've been trying to blow it out,

do. I've been trying to blow it out, like hold my nose, everything. It's

stuck in there. Seriously.

>> Which ear?

>> My left ear. I don't even know if you could see. It's like buried in there.

could see. It's like buried in there.

Must be deep because it's not coming out. But

out. But >> that's not safe, man. In this area, a lot of bugs breed by masturbation. So

once it's in there.

>> No, I know.

>> Yeah.

>> I got to go to urgent care right away.

Yeah. Yeah.

That's unbelievable.

Okay, we officially made it to Virginia.

Last day of the trip.

[Music] [Music] I wore down the shoe enough that the water's coming through the bottom a little bit.

>> Yeah. I'm going 3,000 mi from uh California to Virginia Beach.

Are >> you serious?

>> Yeah.

Yes. Starting to feel real, man. I

looked at the map. I got 100 miles left.

That crazy after all those miles, man.

Just a 100 more left. Wild.

Just realizing now that these are going to be the last like few miles where I'm just out by myself for a long time. You

know, it's been like basically two months. And a lot of those days, I mean,

months. And a lot of those days, I mean, people have been meeting up and stuff like that, but you know, the stuff you don't see is just hours and hours of me

by myself, you know. Um, it's been nice being out here just like I don't know, having time to think, slow down, not

really just have like all the clutter and craziness of the day, you know?

[Music]

Just look at that.

We actually completed that route.

>> Well, basically, yeah, >> that's it right there. It's like funny cuz if you if you looked at that like you'd just be like, "Oh, yeah. like you

wouldn't even cons like think about skating it or something. You know,

>> even in a car, you're just like, "Yeah, I don't know."

>> And that's it. Good to go.

that's it. Good to go.

All right. See you guys later.

[Music] I think I'm ready to have like one day off.

I mean, it's been like 5 what 5 days of like 20our days, you know, mentally and physically demanding. You know what I

physically demanding. You know what I mean? It's not just the skating, it's

mean? It's not just the skating, it's the vlog and it's like, you know, all the logistics and stuff like that.

But I will say I think I could do this for the rest of my life.

[Music] [Music]

Hold on tight.

Hold on tight.

I rewind all the way.

All the ch Just in the days leaving my behind

was the station on my special if I'm trying

I am I all [Applause] is my moment.

I could hold it.

That was so rad. Congrats.

>> Thank you.

>> Congratulations.

>> Oh man, that was nuts.

>> What's up, guys? How are you?

>> I talked to you on the way the first day from Zoom. I don't know if you remember,

from Zoom. I don't know if you remember, which of course.

>> How's it feel to be here?

>> Unreal. Honestly, I wasn't expecting this many people at all. Yeah. I don't

really hear what to say to be honest.

>> How hard was this? I mean, you started this in March. How difficult could this been?

>> Once I started going, I just was in the zone, you know, just felt like second.
