Summary
## Key takeaways - **Solo Prep Totally Different**: Nothing was the same. I felt like I was learning everything for the first time, but really it's the responsibility of understanding that everything is on you and this is you sharing yourself. [00:19], [07:23] - **Amazed by 'Jenny' Viral Success**: I'm just so amazed at how the song is doing and how everyone's reacting to the song. It's definitely not what I expected. [01:05], [01:14] - **Learning to Rap and Sing Anew**: I'm learning how to rap for the first time almost, how to sing for the first time because I've never been able to really focus on only on myself. I've always had the girls with me. [02:15], [02:30] - **Dua Lipa: Caring Comfort Friend**: She's such a caring person in general and we used to do dinners and she always makes sure if I'm good and happy and healthy. Having her work on a song on this album is like having a great friend at work with you. [04:14], [04:45] - **Motto: Live in the Present**: To be present. Enjoy what's in front of you and see what's in front of you, embrace everything that goes around in your day and it could be the smallest things too. [06:35], [06:48] - **Proud of Growing in the Dark**: It's literally the line 'in the dark I grew.' I feel like I've broken through that wall of my fear and everything that was keeping me on the other side, I finally opened my curtains and I'm out there. [11:02], [11:09]

You trained six years to be in Blackpink and now putting out your first solo project. How was the the preparation
project. How was the the preparation different for you this time around? Wow.
Um if if it's easier like nothing was the same. Um I felt like I was learning
same. Um I felt like I was learning everything for the first time. But
really it's the responsibility of like understanding that everything is on you and this is you sharing yourself.
[Music] Hello Jenny. It is so nice to meet you.
Hello Jenny. It is so nice to meet you.
Hello. Hello. Welcome to the studio.
Thank you for stopping by and congratulations on all the the news, the announcements. Congrats on Ruby. Thank
announcements. Congrats on Ruby. Thank
you, Coachella. So many fun things. Yeah,
Coachella. So many fun things. Yeah,
sorry. It's the LA accent. It's wearing
on me. Um, so many fun things happening and I can't wait to dive into a bunch of it with you. Um, got to start with like Jenny. Everyone wants to be like Jenny.
Jenny. Everyone wants to be like Jenny.
No. It's like, no. Has that been such a surprise to see how like massive it's gotten just right when your album comes out? It's crazy. I was just saying even
out? It's crazy. I was just saying even today, I was like, "Wow, I'm just so amazed at how the song is doing and how everyone's reacting to the song." It's
definitely not what I expected. I didn't
know what to expect, but yeah, I'm I'm glad cuz when you put it out, you're not thinking like, "Oh, I think that song is going to do well or that song is." It's
just kind of nice to see the fans, you know, blow it up. Mhm. When you scroll on social media, are you seeing like your own song? Is it coming up the trends? Yeah. Is that trippy? Yeah. I
trends? Yeah. Is that trippy? Yeah. I
don't enjoy it. No. I mean, it's cool, but then like if it keeps happening, it's like you hear yourself so many times and you're like, ah, I if I hear myself, my voice, oh, it's the same
thing. I know exactly what you're
thing. I know exactly what you're talking about. And your your rapping is
talking about. And your your rapping is so good. Like, thank you. It's been so
so good. Like, thank you. It's been so fun to see like your journey and development. How do you think your
development. How do you think your sounds evolve and like in your you know your own project for the first time as well? Um I've noticed that I didn't
well? Um I've noticed that I didn't realize how many genres and different type of sounds that I wanted
to tap into before I worked on this album. And you know, I'm finding myself
album. And you know, I'm finding myself really as I'm going, I'm learning how to rap for the first time almost, how to sing for the first time because I've
never like in a good way. I've never
been able to really focus on only on myself. I've always had the girls with
myself. I've always had the girls with me, you know, I've always had other things happening around me. But for this for this album, I got to really sit down
and explore different voices and sounds.
Um, and it was great. So, I'm looking into I'm going to look into it and find out more about who and what kind of sound that I want to like hold on to.
So, you're getting to experiment a little bit. Is your confidence and like
little bit. Is your confidence and like comfort level at like an all-time high for making music? No. I feel like the I need more time in the studio for me to
feel that way. But I think it was a great start and I've met so many amazing people on the way too and they've inspired me in a
way that I was able to finish this album. So I can't wait to get back and
album. So I can't wait to get back and you know get into it more. You feel like a workaholic a little bit. Like you just love to keep working. You know what
though? It's not all work that I love.
though? It's not all work that I love.
So, I don't consider myself as an alcoholic. Wait, do I?
alcoholic. Wait, do I?
You have to ask. Maybe a little bit. Oh
man. Well, this so many fun collabs.
Congratulations on all these friends that are hopping on the project. I know.
You and Duipa sound so good together.
Our voices though, I love it too. I love
our voices together. I loved hearing that song. I remember it for the first
that song. I remember it for the first time. And it's like a perfect peanut
time. And it's like a perfect peanut butter jelly sandwich, you know? or like
when you get the right amount of coffee creamer in your coffee, it's like Thank you. flows so well together. Sweet
you. flows so well together. Sweet
compliment. Thank you. Thank you. I
appreciate that. I um I was so curious about like you guys have been friends for a little bit, too. What have you learned from just your friendship with her? She's such a caring person in in
her? She's such a caring person in in general and we we used to like do dinners and we would meet at parties and every time she's always like making sure
if I'm good and happy and healthy is everything good around you. So, she's
someone that's always made sure that I feel, you know, I'm feeling good. So, to
have her work on a song on this album, she it it's like a great it's it's like having a great friend at work with you, you know, like what more can I
ask for? She's supportive and she's
ask for? She's supportive and she's obviously giving sharing her beautiful voice with me on this album. Like, I'm
just so happy and it was a great day when we had the shoot. It felt like we were just out in New York in the cold wearing crazy outfits just jamming to a song. That's so fun. She really is like
song. That's so fun. She really is like a comfort human, right? Like your
comfort support human. Um she just has that presence about her. Um and she's got to be one of them for you. But being
honored coming up at Billboards, women in music, you're one of the global forces for 2025. That sounds so cool. Um
obviously, you know, your mom is such an important figure in your life, but what about some other women that have inspired you and helped shape your journey? on my team. There's so many
journey? on my team. There's so many strong women or I have so many strong women around me that are really in every
step of the way that I'm in. So to have that bond to always kind of shows it
taught me a way to respect them and and I'll I'll always be learning from from people around me. So to to be someone
for to be that person for somebody else would be you know uh an honor and you know I want to do well and take care of this honor. So
yeah it's Do you see yourself doing that at all where like maybe you'll meet a younger artist and be able to offer that up to him a little bit? Not just yet.
Not quite because also I'm a very shy person. But I think like over time I'll
person. But I think like over time I'll get used to, you know, sharing whatever I've I've learned and experienced over the years with anyone who who has
questions or who wants to just talk.
Absolutely. There's so many statements in this album, but what would you say is like a motto you're living by right now?
To be present. Like that's that's what I tell myself every day to just enjoy what's in front of you and see what's in front of you. Not that was
something that was in your past or something that's going to happen. Just
like try to embrace everything um that goes around in your day and it could be like the smallest things too. So to live in the present. Yeah. I mean that's a good one. That's tough too. Yeah. And it
good one. That's tough too. Yeah. And it
really Yeah. You got to put some effort into it. Yeah. And time just flies, you
into it. Yeah. And time just flies, you know? I mean, you trained six years to
know? I mean, you trained six years to be in Blackpink and now putting out your first solo project. How was the the preparation different for you this time
around? Wow. Um, if if it's easier, like
around? Wow. Um, if if it's easier, like nothing was the same.
Um, I felt like I was learning everything for the first time, but really it's the responsibility of like understanding that everything is on you
and this is you sharing yourself. So
really having that in the back of your mind all the time is that was a different work process for me from before. Absolutely. Well, we're looking
before. Absolutely. Well, we're looking forward to Coachella. I'm so excited to see you. I'll be out there. You get
see you. I'll be out there. You get
ready for your Yeah. your first solo debut, which has got to be so exciting.
What are the feelings like what's going on internally? Internally, only
on internally? Internally, only excitement, pure joy, of course.
And in the physical world, there's still a lot that I need to get done before it.
But, you know, really for the first time, I'm just excited excited. And I
feel I'm going to have a great time. So,
I hope to anyone who who comes to watch my show will have a great time, too. Oh,
I sure will. Can't wait to see it. And
you're obviously a fashion icon. I think
I could say that.
Um, yeah, I was going to say came. Um,
let's build the perfect festival outfit.
Like, have you gone to someone and enjoyed like what should people the vision for Coachella? And if you're at your set, what should they they be
rocking? I'm like a comfort person, so I
rocking? I'm like a comfort person, so I need like comfortable pants and shoes to begin with. Shoes are huge. Yeah. And
begin with. Shoes are huge. Yeah. And
for me, it's always about wearing something cute on top to make it a little bit more Coachella, which is like something that I normally wouldn't wear
cuz I'm never in that weather. First of
all, I'm never always in the desert. So,
um, yeah, it it's been changing over time, too. But I think just some throw
time, too. But I think just some throw on some packagings and a cute top. Yeah,
it's about the mems. It's not always about the fit cuz I see some people, you walk a marathon, basically, and they're in heels. Exactly. Exactly. Those people
in heels. Exactly. Exactly. Those people
are the toughest people in America. I
don't know how they do it. Give them all the credit. I'm wearing has just trying
the credit. I'm wearing has just trying to make it through. But, well, Jenny Ruby Jane is such a fun name. Just rolls
right off the tongue. And yes, it's like it's fun to say. Um, and I'm curious when it comes to names like that, like are you a creative person in terms of in your phone having a list of names for
like future pets, songs, album stuff?
Yes. Are you I I think I'm like an over note person. Yeah. So, I just write a
note person. Yeah. So, I just write a lot of things down and I've realized that it helps in time. Like, you know, I didn't realize the things that I've written in my notes were were going to
be a part of this album. like I wrote something probably like years ago feeling stupid and you know I look back and like oh I remember the time I did this and then it becomes one of your
word like art and the whole circle. So I
always like to write things down and note everything in case well in case I forget but it helps in time. Yeah. Are
you a big to-do list person? You got to write it out to make sure you have checklist stuff. I'm that way too. Um
checklist stuff. I'm that way too. Um
yes and no.
Like I get super lazy when I'm working a lot. So these days I'm not really a
lot. So these days I'm not really a to-do person. I I don't give a list and
to-do person. I I don't give a list and I don't want to know what I have to do in a day. It gets daunting. You know,
you feel bad if you don't check it off and you're like ah it's too much too much pressure on the notes app. But well
my one of my last questions for you about the album is Zen really feels like the core of the project especially you know the lyric in the dark I grew. What
to you though are you most proud of um from this project? It's literally the line that you said like I feel like I've
I grew in the dark. So to be able to have broken through that wall of my fear and everything that was keeping me on
the other side, I finally opened my curtains and I'm out there. So that's
got to be the most proudest thing. I love that. I'm
happy for you. Thank you.
Congratulations on all the success. Love
the music. So fun to have you here in person. Can't wait to see a Coachella.
person. Can't wait to see a Coachella.
And I don't know why I keep saying it like that. It's going to be in my ears.
like that. It's going to be in my ears.
There you go. Right in the notes app.
Jenny, thank you so much for the time and for stopping by. I really appreciate it. Thank you for having me.
it. Thank you for having me.
