The Good, The Bad & The Ugly about MSC Splendida

On MSE Splendid, we found some really amazing surprises. But there were also

amazing surprises. But there were also some things we really didn't expect.

>> And there is even one things that honestly shock us. This is the good, the bad, and the ugly things on MSE Spina.

Let's start with the good >> because cruising on MSE Splendid really is quite >> splendid. The first things is the ship.

>> splendid. The first things is the ship.

>> The ship itself is absolutely beautiful.

So she is an older ship.

>> Maybe not as old as >> some >> some but >> but more older than Europa for example.

>> Yeah. So we've sailed on >> Europa >> and who are more modern ships.

>> But the MSE Splendid has a timeless elegance about her. Uh she's it's just very

about her. Uh she's it's just very classic and we really liked that there were there was no any >> to be honest at the beginning when we

look the pictures >> it look old and you say oh maybe it's not our >> taste test >> and we read some comments some people said oh it was outdated it needed a refurbishment

>> but actually it was very nice >> and to be honest it but if you have timeless elegance in your mind when you book I don't think you'll be

disappointed. So, no, there were no

disappointed. So, no, there were no fancy LED um overhead roofs like we had on Grandiosa and um World Europa. Um the

atrium is smaller.

>> It's very nice, but smaller, >> but it still has the S Swarovski crystal staircases. It has a gold chandelier

staircases. It has a gold chandelier hanging down >> and a glass lift.

>> Has fantastic glass lifts. Yes. Going up

>> making everything look up like that. It

was it was very well done.

>> But around the ship there's there's a stunning staircase that drops down from one deck um down into the casino that curves round. That was a really nice

curves round. That was a really nice feature. The theater is enormous kind of

feature. The theater is enormous kind of art deco style. Um yeah, the ship itself, the design, the style, as we said, there's a kind of a timeless

elegance to it.

>> We love it, but maybe some of you not going to like it. If you want something more, maybe Europa is better for you or but for us it was very very nice to to

be on board.

>> Yeah. And of course the facilities on the MSE Spend Splendid. Not only the style of the the ship, but the facilities, there's everything you would expect.

Dining rooms. >> Yeah.

>> Bars.

>> Bars. A lot of bars.

>> Casino.

>> Uh theater. There's kids clubs.

>> Kids clubs. There is one drop for kid as well.

>> Yeah. Slide.

>> There is games.

>> Indoor pool.

>> Outdoor pools.

>> Sport games where you can >> Oh, there's the arena.

>> Arena where you can play football, basket or whatever.

>> So, there's everything you could want on the boat. And it's it's it's just very

the boat. And it's it's it's just very stylishly done.

>> Another good things is about the food and the restaurant. As we said before, is the same style as a ship. So the

buffet, to be honest, the buffet is very nice. Very nice decorated.

>> Yeah, it almost felt It wasn't really a medit Mediterranean feel. I thought it was more of like um that that dark wood.

It felt slightly Asian. It was quite a nice vibe in there. It was

>> can I can say maybe it's like a in the like a pirate ships, you know.

>> Yeah. In a galley or Yeah. And at the back of the the buffet is is quite large as usual. It's on both sides of the

as usual. It's on both sides of the ship. It's mirrored the buffet and but

ship. It's mirrored the buffet and but what we really liked was at the back >> you have a very nice windows view from the sea and that is quite nice as well.

So there were two buffets. I forget

there's the Pago Pago buffet and then there's a Bora Bora buffet. So of course the names themselves as I said they're slightly >> think think that that kind of design. Um

but one of them they're one there's one and then you walk into the other that are exactly the same but the one at the back of the boat as Olivia said has fantastic view. So it's a nice place to

fantastic view. So it's a nice place to sit and >> so you are still have a long house with plenty of table but there is as well some kind of corner

>> sort of out inside where you can be it isated with less people.

>> Yeah. So we thought it was really uh nicely designed the buffet area >> and the food is a it's like a buffet like on >> on the other MS

nice quality plenty of choice. So you

have breakfast, lunch, dinner. But

>> yeah, and it when when we went I wouldn't say it was too overcrowded. It

seemed it seemed like it it worked. Um the

other thing was the main dining areas were very >> very nice.

>> Very nice as well.

>> Very beautiful.

>> The first one is called >> Y >> and second one is called the Verde.

>> There's the Verde V. B is very >> as he likes it.

>> So yes, it's very decorated as well and yes. So

yes. So >> that was good.

>> The restaurant has the same decorations as the ship. Little bit old, but >> it's classic.

>> Classic, but it's working.

>> Yeah. And it felt kind of elegant and kind of expensive to be honest. I think

the ship was built at a time when they probably put more money into the fixtures and fittings quality.

>> We we did this reflection. It's look

like oil price.

>> Of course, it's not the same level price. I don't know. I never been to

price. I don't know. I never been to that kind of maybe you have been but >> elegant.

>> It's elegant. It's wood. It's

>> that we used to get in years gone by.

Some people call it outdated >> but I call it timeless.

>> Timeless classic I would call it. Yeah,

>> it's still fashion now.

>> Yeah, >> it's still working.

>> And the other great thing we liked about the MSE spender, especially you because you he doesn't like spending extra money on cruises. As you might know if you've

on cruises. As you might know if you've been following us, >> there is few speciality restaurant. Just

two. I think they add it after, but there are just two speciality restaurant. One on the top deck.

>> Yeah, at the top of the boat.

>> Don't remember the name.

>> That's an Asian style restaurant.

>> Asian style restaurant. And one on the pond. What we can call that is

pond. What we can call that is >> the butcher butcher cut >> with a steak and everything.

>> It's not it's not a boat where you're sold stuff.

>> No.

>> And the good point as well because there is less speciality restaurant. There is

more space for no speciality since like there is plenty of bar >> and there is plenty of different bar everywhere in different space.

>> So that is very good.

>> Yeah. Yeah.

>> So that is for the good point for the food >> because I think they do very well.

>> So another good thing I particularly like is that the boat is very clean.

>> It's very clean.

>> The um the areas inside the boat are spotless. Sometimes you've seen someone

spotless. Sometimes you've seen someone cleaning. I don't know how they do it

cleaning. I don't know how they do it because it's kept it was very clean. The

glass lifts there weren't many fingerprints on them. It was the boat the ship was pretty good.

>> I think they do the same way as they did because Wopa was the cleanest boat we saw. This one is clean as well. It's as

saw. This one is clean as well. It's as

clean as a ropa.

>> Yeah.

>> Not the grand.

>> No.

>> But those two was very clean and very good. Even if this one is very old,

good. Even if this one is very old, nothing is broken.

>> No. Everything looked in a good state of repair. We saw them even cleaning the

repair. We saw them even cleaning the bowling >> area. They were going up and down

>> area. They were going up and down cleaning that, making sure that was all there. And there were lots of

there. And there were lots of maintenance people repairing things and every now and again, you know, so at least if something broke >> breaks, they do come and um fix it. So

we thought, yes, the boat's very clean.

It's in a good state of repair. The

outside areas, the deck, swimming pools, all of that. No problem, very clean.

>> We notice nothing strange.

So if you're like me and um cleanliness is an issue for you, I don't think be disappointed.

>> Even the in the normal palette for everybody, >> it's very clean. never noticed something >> a problem strange considering the number of people >> maybe maybe you you you did so you can

comment below but for us we never >> our experience on MSC splendid day it's a very clean boat which we really appreciated >> as always as we already say on the other

video we are completely independent we always say what we think especially me >> happy >> and and uh so >> tell the truth about the truth >> at the time

>> at the time if it's good is good it's Not it's not we're going to say it and so if you want to help us please thumb

the G Maria I went you can't see it But I went a few time to the gym and the equipment was very modern for

this part. This part everything was very

modern. A very nice equipment with LCD everywhere. And the bonus point you are

everywhere. And the bonus point you are the view outside >> front >> from the front of the boat.

>> The gym is actually sit situated um underneath York Club. So, if you know a bit about MST Europa, ship within a ship, um the yacht club is there. You

can also check out some of our other videos about um yacht club, but the gym is situated directly underneath and yacht clubs always at the front of ships usually because they have the best

views. So, the gym

views. So, the gym >> the gym was >> fantastic location >> on front of the ship and you have a very nice view and it's very it's really

wide. really surprised and there were so

wide. really surprised and there were so many running machines and as Livia said they were like state-ofthe-art new running machines. You did several

running machines. You did several programs >> um and it's it's really spacious and the other good thing about it is that there's um there's a bar area which um

hadn't seen on the um not sure on MSE uh world but definitely on MSE Grandio there wasn't and they were serving like health drinks. So, if you're into your

health drinks. So, if you're into your protein shakes, um fruit smoothies and stuff, it's a good place to go. They are

an extra charge, >> but if you want that as part of your daily routine, um >> you can have a very very nice fresh food.

>> And actually, this order >> and actually the spa is part of the same complex. So you enter through this the

complex. So you enter through this the it's the spa entrance and you can get to the gym this bar and then there's the spa area which is at a charge. Um it

just had some >> well we're going to come on to that later but anyway it was it was a nice area where you could uh relax and have a drink or coffee or anything after you've

worked out which was quite good.

>> Quite good. So another things we really love it is the how to explain to you is a ship is a

different area along the ship. So when

you walk >> you pass through different zone >> different ambiance.

>> Yeah. And so you arrived to one bar with evenings there is always people playing music or >> so it was like a purple jazz bar wasn't it?

>> Yes. With a few people playing music there. You carry on you have another bar

there. You carry on you have another bar behind with another ambiance with another style of music. So there is music for everybody.

>> So as you walk the length of the ship you go from one bar to another. There's

live music playing in each. So the style the the style the decor is different the music different vibe and we thought that was uh really >> very clever >> very clever

>> was really nice because there's not this central prominard like on the newer ships >> as Olivia said earlier there's more space for other things so it's literally

um places for you to relax and enjoy in the evening um listening to different music and it was um it was great in the evening it came alive >> and also the atrium Although it's a much smaller atrium than

we've seen on the other newer ships.

>> Newer ships, >> it was the it was electric.

>> They use a space very clever.

>> Yeah, >> they they are very clever to using all the space. They are for example for the

the space. They are for example for the show when we listen abba.

Yeah, we had the aba one.

>> Aba one. Uh, one guy go on the glass lift and he was dancing on the glass lift performing as the go down and meanwhile the the rest of the

entertainment um team is on the ground floor cuz there's a p grand piano there and they're singing and they're getting all the passengers involved and everybody was on the decks the number

decks overlooking the center >> and because because it's morning making cozy and everybody was enjoying what they see >> dancing dancing electric atmosphere it and it was >> the atmosphere was brilliant.

>> Yeah. And it was like just a moment of sharing on the boat that was really incredible. It's one of our sort of

incredible. It's one of our sort of favorite memories there.

>> Yeah. So that is another good point for the splendid.

>> I think he have a great name. He choose

a great splendid. She

>> is splendid >> because he's very nice.

>> He's a splendid ship and he have a great time.

>> So another great thing on MSE Splendid is their theater. The size of this theater is absolutely enormous.

You you actually you can't believe you're on a cruise ship sat in this enormous >> West End style theater. It's bigger than some of the theaters I've been to in London.

>> So this place it is enormous this art deco. And one of the brilliant things is

deco. And one of the brilliant things is you don't have to reserve for the shows.

So on other ships you have to reserve >> on the interactive screen >> interactive screen to reserve your >> which they do have interactive screens on the boat by the way. We forgot to tell you. But they're not used for

tell you. But they're not used for booking. Um they're just like for debt

booking. Um they're just like for debt plans and stuff like that. But you don't have to reserve the shows on them. So

this is great cuz you can really be spont spontaneous.

>> Yes, we having dinner and decide to go to the show.

>> You can go if you don't you didn't book.

So it's fine. You can stay where you are. Enjoy your cocktail in the bar or

are. Enjoy your cocktail in the bar or if you prefer to stay where there is a music. It's fun.

>> Yeah. So they have two shows um an evening. But the other good thing is one

evening. But the other good thing is one is quite late. So if you are like us, we like to take our time over eating and on the other two ships, we were a bit pressed for time sometimes to go and see

the show. You think, oh, you're watching

the show. You think, oh, you're watching the your watch and you've got to get there and you've got to find get a seat and all of that.

>> Yes. Sitting is very >> actually on um Splendida, you literally could eat your dinner and it was late enough that you could take your time.

You can go and enjoy some of the entertainment in the atrium we've just talked about. go and have a drink and

talked about. go and have a drink and then you can go to the late show or vice versa. You can go to an early show and

versa. You can go to an early show and eat afterwards. So, it was um we like

eat afterwards. So, it was um we like that. We like that a lot. We thought it

that. We like that a lot. We thought it was a good good point.

>> But not everything is good on the theater. We're going to talk to you

theater. We're going to talk to you after.

>> Another good things is the staff. As we

said in bad review of the Messa, you can see the cat here somewhere. uh

>> completely different experience completely different on >> that our conclusion on is because there is a lack it was a lack of attention >> on grandio

>> yeah to detail >> to detail on brilliant all the staff is brilliant they are you ask they are friendly they

>> they chat to you they're efficient they they're everything done properly >> I will say for the cleaning we don't see cleaning But if we notice everything is clean.

>> Yeah.

>> So we had zero problems with staff on this crew. So we can only assume that

this crew. So we can only assume that the captain of the um MSE split splendid is clearly doing a brilliant job because it does come from top

>> down and all the staff we met were absolutely fabulous which of course adds to your whole experience. So I say yeah

bravo to the captain cuz he's clearly running a a very tight ship as we say in English but a great ship as well. So we

really appreciate the starter. Thank you

the last good things is uh is >> really for first time >> first time cruisers. Uh

>> well, especially those who are going perhaps the first time around the Mediterranean. Yeah, you could say cuz

Mediterranean. Yeah, you could say cuz we went on a Mediterranean cruise.

>> Yeah. So, the good things is you travel during the night.

>> Yeah. So each morning when you wake up you are on another country or another town >> another city you open your balcony or

you go on the deck if you don't have if you have inside cabin and you're going to see another landscape in front of you >> and it is magical.

>> Yeah it is say oh we wake up oh we are in spend now. Okay,

>> so we particularly like the MSE spended at the itinerary we did. We could just talk to you a bit about that. We started

in Mar because we live in the south of France, so it's convenient for us.

>> Our actual first cruise port for a change wasn't Barcelona. No,

>> cuz as we know there's quite a lot of problems. There bit of anti-ourist feeling going on.

>> Um the the ship actually docked at Tarragona. We we we discovered Tarragona

Tarragona. We we we discovered Tarragona for the first time.

>> To be honest, Taragona was the detour.

>> Yeah. Beautiful city. Beautiful city.

>> Um, then we stayed in Spain. The next

morning we found ourselves in Valencia again.

>> You've been before. I was a first time visitor.

>> We went to the old city actually on an MSSE excursion for the first time. Um,

and we >> not excus.

>> Oh, just the bus cuz we did.

>> We do like a self tour >> because we were with >> my father >> her parents and they don't like to they can't walk a lot. So yeah, it's better public transport is a bit harder for

them. So we took the pre-arranged bus.

>> Valencia old town is beautiful. Then you

only have one day at sea generally on a a Mediterranean cruise. So the MSE spended then um carried on her journey during the night and we went straight across the Mediterranean from Spain to

Italy to Leona >> to be back to the one day on sea. We're

hop on hop off guided tour around Rome.

But we ended up back in um Marseilles.

But as you can see, we went to two different count well three. We started

in France, we went to Spain and Italy.

And it really is magical going from place to place during the night and arriving somewhere >> somewhere.

It's like your hotel move to another place each day. So it's quite magical for the first time first time you do that. It was good.

>> So yeah, we really enjoyed this um MSE Splendid itinerary as did my as did my parents. There's some great um great

parents. There's some great um great cities we discovered and some great memories we've made.

>> So now the bad things, don't worry.

>> They're not that bad.

>> I think you can tell we had a great cruise on MSE Splendid. So they're

legals. They're not really >> bad. The first one, as we said before,

>> bad. The first one, as we said before, is entertainment. So MSE Splender has

is entertainment. So MSE Splender has this amazing theater, this amazing venue, >> but >> maybe they spend too much money to the venue. I don't know. But

venue. I don't know. But

>> but >> the entertainment show wasn't at Broadway.

>> We were just disappointed. I think the first I can't remember what day we bored. I think we got on a um embarked

bored. I think we got on a um embarked on a Thursday.

>> The first few shows were really good.

There was a Broadway one, but they were they were nice.

>> To be honest, the the best one was for me was a guys who are doing the magic.

>> Yeah, there was a magician >> for for one time he was he was very good.

>> But towards the end of the cruise, I' I've never done this in my whole life.

We actually walked out of two performances. We didn't even stay for

performances. We didn't even stay for the end. Now, I've never in my life done

the end. Now, I've never in my life done that.

>> It was It was making no sense. Nobody

understand what they're doing. What?

Yes, we can understand. It was some kind of fairy tale about >> I don't know. Anyway, we we my parents

as well left as well. We we all did. And

it's it was just a shame because obviously the entertainment on board is a highlight for um lots of people going on a cruise. But

>> but don't worry if you don't like it. Do

like us. Enjoy the bar with free music.

>> Live music.

>> Live music. These guys are really weird.

>> So if if the theater's not for you, don't sit there all evening. What am I watching? Just go to one of the bars and

watching? Just go to one of the bars and continue your evening listening to live music or Yeah. You'll find something else to do because there's plenty of things to do.

>> Um yeah. So that was the ship.

>> Yeah.

>> At the theater.

>> The theater. Now one by >> it's suggestions.

>> No suggestions. Nothing related to splendid.

I really enjoy in the world. If you look in our other video, there is where there is all the bar and shop and everything. There is a small

area who are doing pizza, burger, ships on your rings and some you can take most. You can take some Coca-Cola fast

most. You can take some Coca-Cola fast food a nice a nice fast food.

>> It's like it's like a American voila. So

you can take your co your coke your your drink >> you can have grab you can grab a burger >> and it was on the same event where

everybody pass >> these same food are available on the buffet in so you can go to the buffet you can have pizza burger exactly the same >> but there was no other

>> but when you are down it's little bit tricky to take the leaf to go to do take one piece of pizza and go back if you are just want some kind of snack during

the day or whatever.

>> So it was just a suggestion really rather than a bad thing.

>> It's not a bad thing but I think he was very clever. The the diner in Europa was

very clever. The the diner in Europa was very good because he >> he offer you some other point where you can have some food.

>> You don't need to go up to the buffet.

>> I guess they think the buffet is open fairly long hours. And there was that other nice area on the boat, the with the piaza kind of feel, the fountain.

>> Yes, >> there was gelato there, but you did have to pay for it.

>> And there were cakes.

>> Yes.

>> And you could have coffee and cake. Not

sure if they do other snacks cuz we weren't there at that time of the day, but >> he's right. Some sort of quick grab and go.

>> It was nice. It was nice. It was nice where everybody pass, >> but it's it's an Olivia suggestion and I said it's not really a >> criticism.

>> There was plenty of food, believe us.

>> Another slightly disappointing bad thing were the lifts. This we are talking niggles here. Uh on both the MSE

World Europa and the MSE Grandiosa, you have intelligent lifts. And if you haven't been on those ships, you can either check out our videos or I'm gonna well do check out our videos, but I'm going to tell you. You go to the lift

and you you tell it what >> deck you want to go to.

>> And it manages it's a bank of lifts and it tells you which lift to stand in front of. So it could be a

front of. So it could be a >> BC >> depending on the size of the ship and you get in that lift and they they manage the flow of passengers like that and it's brilliant.

>> It's just it works. It works very well.

So on um MS Splender there isn't this system. So

system. So >> is a system where you click on the button you need to wait >> the leaf going down or up.

>> So kind of the system more generally used.

>> Basically basically on the modern ship the leaf are talking each other lift >> to know where they are and they >> guide you to the one where next level to

you come you are going to come to your >> so you don't wait too long.

is old fashioned lift. You click on the button whatever whatever he's not going to talk with a guy lift behind.

>> So this meant you are waiting sometimes to catch the lift a little while and they can turn up and be full of people which you know it's a bit annoying but >> you know it it's what we you know

>> it's kind of the usual system for a lift but >> but for lift the good point as we said before there is two glass and they are available >> and that was a lovely feature in the atrium area. Very brilliant. Very nice.

>> So yeah, we So although they don't have the intelligent list, they do have the >> nice >> nice glass feature list in the atrium area >> is glass leaf as well.

>> It was nice but modern. This one it was lovely curve and very nice >> beautiful.

>> Yeah. So the other one bad things as well we found again it's very small is on the spa. So, we're not saying that the spa is bad because it wasn't because

we actually use a spa quite a bit, but it because because this one it was working.

>> Yeah.

>> Not lacking grandio.

>> Yes, it was working this one.

>> So, the spa was working. That's always a plus. So, thank you.

>> Thank you. Um anyway, but the um the spa was mainly steams and sauna and there's a small and I would say is a small relaxation area. There were literally

relaxation area. There were literally six >> um sun beds.

>> Six sunbeds.

>> Beautiful view.

>> Beautiful view.

>> Wool um uh floor to ceiling um >> glass uh on the side of the >> window so you could see um outside. So

we were in Genova. It was beautiful cuz the city's right there in front of you and it's quite an attractive >> just a sea sea space there.

>> But there are only steam rooms and sauners. There are quite a few of them

sauners. There are quite a few of them different >> we worked out at the end cuz we were we should have asked. We worked out the end there different temperatures. You're

meant to start >> 60 70 and 80 plus degrees.

>> Okay. So we started in the hottest one and then went in like it's not quite as hot. And then we

hot. And then we >> we realized we should start with >> rookie error.

>> So perhaps we should have asked but anyway so if you are going on MSV Splendida the soreness >> they're a different level start in the >> 60° first

don't make our mistake. Um but the thing is um I have to say the MSE Grand spa although it didn't work it is a very nice spa. There's lots of

nice spa. There's lots of >> Yes.

>> facilities in it, >> but we have a jacuzzi inside as well.

>> Yeah. But sadly on the MSE Splendid, there isn't a p it's a thermal area, but there's no sort of public jacuzzi within that space.

There are jacuzzi's, but they're behind closed doors. And I did speak to the spa

closed doors. And I did speak to the spa staff, and they are um treatment rooms, so you have to pay to use them. And she

gave me the prices. So there is no just be aware that there's no spa there's no jacuzzi in the MSE spender spa jacuzzi on the water >> they're all over the ship so uh there

are plenty of outdoor jacuzzi's and in the indoor swimming pool area so you just have to make the most of those unless you want to pay of course and then feel free

>> another bad things but it's not another bad it's a different expectations as we said

uh before on the ship we have different zone and >> MS we have different zone and we we love

this design it was working very well but on the other hand we love as well the ona and MSA
